Seven Things to Check on a Laser Cutting Machine Spec Sheet
The spec sheet is a sales document. These are the lines that decide whether the machine fits your work.
A spec sheet is written to sell. Read it with these checks in mind.
1. Rated power at the workpiece
Installed power and output power are different numbers. Ask for output at the workpiece.
2. Bed size
1500x3000 mm is the industry standard sheet size. A smaller bed restricts nesting and forces you to cut sheets down first.
3. Laser source brand and warranty
The source is the most expensive component. Brand, warranty length and who services it locally matter more than the power number.
4. Cutting head
Which head, what is covered, what is a consumable (nozzles, protective lenses).
5. Controller
Industry-standard controllers are easier to hire operators for and to get serviced.
6. Gas supply
What gas pressure and purity does the machine assume? Nitrogen supply can cost more than electricity.
7. Service
Who is the local service partner, and what is the spare-parts lead time?
A longer checklist is published in the fiber laser buying guide. The Fabricator also runs practical shop-floor articles on machine evaluation.
